Firstly, there are some beautiful leotards in this field! At the halfway point, Texas Dreams' Peyton Ernst leads over Madison Kocian of WOGA. McKayla Maroney on Vault - Just a step on the landing of the Amanar but a great Vault anyways! And what looks like a huge step forward on the Mustafina (Scores 15.250). Rough time on Beam for Kocian, a few bobbles. Rock solid routine from Ernst on the Balance Beam just a small hop on the dismount. Love Kyla's leotard and a solid effort on the Vault. Can I just say that I love the GAGE leotards. Headed into the final rotation, Ernst is still in the lead over Kyla Ross (Gym-Max) and Abigail Milliet (Denton). And it's official, Kyla Ross' amazing Uneven Bars routine puts her over the top of Peyton Ernst and GAGE gymnast Brenna Dowell. Mykayla Skinner's Cheng Vault was incredible, but McKayla Maroney's higher vault average saw her top Skinner for the top on the apparatus. Ross was the high scorer on the Uneven Bars whilst Peyton Ernst's 14.700 on the Balance Beam was the high mark on that apparatus. Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy's Lexie Priessman was top scorer on the Floor Exercise.

RESULTS:
  1. Kyla Ross (Gym-Max) (15.200, 15.400, 14.650, 13.400) 58.650

The Women's team from Israel were successful in the Open and Junior Team Competitions at the 2013 Maccabiah Games, with the contingent from the United States and Canada finishing second and third respectively in both division. Canada's Junior team medal was a gallant victory as competitor Erin Day was competing with a sprained ankle. The Women's competition was split into two days - the first saw the Team Competition and the second featured the Event Finals. Shaked Malec of Israel won both the Maccabiah Games and Israel Championships Senior All Around titles. Hungarian Eszter Romhanyi was second in the All Around with Orlando Metro gymnast Charly Santagado finishing third. Anna Weiskopf of the USA tied with Malec for the Vault title with Charly Santagado (USA) picking up the Uneven Bars title. USA's Sara Mermelstein won the Balance Beam Final over Liron Avrahami (ISR) and Malec who tied for second. Floor results are unavailable.

In the Junior competition, Tzuf Feldon won the All Around competition over Slovenian Sara King and Lior Hasan (ISR) who finished second and third respectively. Gaya Giladi won the Vault title over American Olivia Sinrich. Tzuf Feldon of Israel was the Uneven Bars champion and also tied with compatriot Ofir Kremer for the Balance Beam honors. Giladi was also the Floor Exercise champion, topping Sara King of Slovenia who finished in second and Daniella Rabin of the United States who finished third. I think the Vault and Uneven Bars results for the Israel Juniors need to be switched around?

Day One Event Finals at Pan American Apparatus Championships - Live Results

There are some lovely leotards which have been worn over the course of the competition at the Pan American Senior Apparatus Championships so far.... A lot of green today! One thing I would have liked to see in the opening package for each apparatus would be images of the Puerto Rican gymnasts competing on the apparatus. Jessica Lopez (VEN) had a solid Beam routine, couple of bobbles and a large hop forward on the dismount. A few bobbles for Dovelis Elena Torres Herrero but she managed to stay on. Gabriella Douglas (CAN) had a fall and a disappointing routine for her, but nice to see her manage a smile. Can I say how great it is to see Diego Hypolito back to competition. Fall for Victoria Moors of Canada but a solid routine otherwise. Few bobbles but a solid set for Karla Yanin Retiz Hernandez of Mexico. On a side note Mauro Martinez of Argentina replaced Dominican Republic's Henrry Campusano Terrero in the Vault final. Solid routine for Valeria Pereyra but quite low on the dismount. Byron Lopez Portalanza crashes his first Vault - not enough power off the table. Better second Vault. Poor Daniele Hypolito - super solid routine until she crashed her dismount - so disappointing. Such power from Jorge Vega (GUA) on his second Vault - off to the side and I thought he was going to take out the Judges. Rock solid routine for Ana Sofia Gomez Porras. Too much power for Puerto Rico's Alexis Torres on his first Vault. Much better second Vault. Larduet Bicet wins Vault over Diego Hypolito and Angel Ramos Rivera. Whilst on Beam Gomez Porras takes the title over Venezuelan Jessica Lopez and Cuba's Dovelis Elena Torres Herrero.

Nicolle Diemel Vazquez-Aviles of Puerto replaces Paula Andrea Mejias-Rodriguez in the Floor Exercise final. Victoria Moors (CAN) out of bounds on first pass (Double double layout), step out on second pass. Sleeveless red leo for Briannah Tsang (CAN). Steps out of bounds and lands on her stomach on the Vault runway. Dovelis Torres (CUB) fall on second last pass, solid routine otherwise. Super Parallel Bars routine from Brazil's Sergio Sasaki Junior. Solid routine for Sandra Collantes on Floor Exercise and Federico Molinari on Parallel Bars. Molinari always seems to be happy and smiling. Solid routine for Daniele Hypolito. Fall on Parallel Bars for Brazil's Francisco Carlos Barretto Junior. Love Makarena Pinto Adasme's Floor Routine. Slight bobble on the landing of her final pass but that was a fantastic routine from Nicolle Vazquez. Huge step forward on one of Leidys Izabela Perdoma's passes. Larduet Bicet pick ups another gold medal -this time on the Parallel Bars - Colombian Jorge Hugo Giraldo Lopez and Brazilian Sergio Sasaki round out the top three. Daniele Hypolito of Brazil wins the Floor Exercise title. Canadian Victoria Moors finishes second with Cuban Leidys Izabela Perdomo Dominguez winning the bronze.

I love watching the high-flying Horizontal Bar. Super routine from Colombian Jossimar Orlando Calvo Moreno! Great routine for Nicolas Cordoba, just low on the dismount. Massive routine for Angel Ramos Rivera who celebrates his 25th Birthday - Feliz Cumpleanos. Just a issue on the landing of Alexis Torres' dismount otherwise a lovely routine. Calvo Moreno takes the title over Nicolas Cordoba (ARG) and Brazilian Francisco Carlos Barretto Junior.

And we are onto the final day of competition at the 2013 Senior Pan American Apparatus Championships which are being held at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente. Today sees Women's Vault and Uneven Bars and Men's Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse and Still Rings. Some more stunning leotards! Ohhh love Nicolle Diemil Vazquez-Aviles' leotard. She messes up the run on her first Vault and runs off the runway. Fantastic Vaults for Nicolle. Yamilet Pena Abreu (DOM) sits down her first Vault. Sorry was having an issue with the live video feed. Fabulous second Vault for Ecuador's Elid Hellwing Burgos. Fantastic routine for Manrique Larduet Bicet. Solid Vaults for Peru's Sandra Collantes de Riglos. Dovelis Elena Torres Herrero of Cuba wins the Vault title over Brazilian Leticia Stephanie Lima Da Costa and Peru's Sandra Collantes de Riglos. Brazil's Diego Hypolito outclassed the field on the Floor Exercise winning the title over Cuba's Manrique Larduet Bicet and Colombian Jossimar Orlando Calvo Moreno.

Deep squat on Ivet Rojas' dismount but a fantastic routine otherwise. Jorge Hugo Giraldo of Colombia always looks happy. Fall for Sandra Collantes. Mishap for Argentinian Andres Arean on the Pommel Horse. Solid routine for Lima Da Costa but she counted a couple of steps back on the dismount. Super routine for Jessica Lopez!! Solid routine for Ayelen Tarabini she just sat down the dismount though. Landed on her feet first though. Great save on the Pommel Horse for Jose Luis Fuentes Bustamante. Super routine for Karla Amaranta Torres Nunez. Fantastic routine for Angel Ramos Rivera! Another great routine - this time for Kaitlyn Hofland. Hofland triumphs over the Venezuelan duo of Jessica Lopez and Ivet Rojas who finished second and third respectively. Brazil's Sergio Sasaki Junior won the Pommel Horse honors over Colombia's Jorge Hugo Giraldo Lopez and Pericles Fouro Da Silva (BRA).

Jossimar Orlando Calvo Moreno (COL) is quite a composed guy with a solid Still Rings routine to match it. Fantastic routine for Alexis Torres. Another solid routine, this time for Henrique Medina Flores. There are some fantastic routines being seen in this final. So far there have been no major errors. Federico Molinari just pulled out a magnificent routine! Listen to the crowd roar after Tommy Ramos' routine! Magnificent! Medina Flores takes out the title with Tommy Ramos and Federico Molinari tying for the silver.

Looking at the Men's Field for P&G U.S. National Championships

I thought it was about time we looked at the fields for the upcoming P&G United States National Artistic Gymnastics Championships, starting with the Men's. Men's competition will be held on the 16th of August (Juniors 1pm; Seniors 7pm) and the 18th of August (Seniors 11.30am; Juniors 6.30pm) at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. USA Gymnastics announced on Thursday that Jonathan Horton (Cypress Academy of Gymnastics) had decided to withdraw from the competition in order to work on his competition readiness. He is being replaced in the field by Steven Jaciuk (University of Minnesota) who was next in line in terms of the Men's Program Point System which determines who qualifies to the Championships.

Let's talk Seniors. So obviously you cannot discount the 2012 Olympic Team Members and Alternates (Danell Leyva, Jacob Dalton, John Orozco, Samuel Mikulak, Steven Legendre and Alexander Naddour. Other current National Team members in action are Adrian De Los Angeles, Sean Melton, Akash Modi, Eddie Penev, Paul Ruggeri III and Brandon Wynn. And then you have the Collegiate Gymnasts - I could sit here all evening and go through them all, as they all have their merits and specialties but names that pop out to me are: Wyatt Aycock (Nebraska), Donothan Bailey (Cal-Berkeley); Stacey Ervin (Michigan), Landon Funiciello (William & Mary), Trevor Howard (Penn State), Steven Lacombe (Cal-Berkeley), Matthew Loochtan (Iowa), Ellis Mannon (Minnesota), Kanji Oyama (Oklahoma) and Eric Shryver (Nebraska). Another two Gymnasts to watch for are U.S. Olympic Training Center's Josh Dixon and Donnell Whittenburg.

And then we move onto the Junior Divisions, starting with the 17-18 Years division. I must admit that I am not as familiar with this field as I would like, and the same goes with the 14-15 years. However those I do recognize are: Swiss Turners' Dimitri Belanovski, Andrew Botto (Stanford), Allan Bower (Xtreme), Antonio Castro (Florida Gymnastics Training Center), Jacob Dastrup (USOTC), Chandler Eggleston (High Point Gymnastics Academy), Andrew Rickly (Hocking Valley), Taylor Seaton (WOGA) and Christopher Stephenson (USAF Men's Gymnastics).

For the 14-15 Juniors, some names to watch out for are: Bobby Baker (Aerial), the WOGA boys (Yaroslav Pochinka, Tristan Burke and Fabian DeLuna), Alex Diab (Premier), David Jessen (Rhode Island Sports Elite), Hunter Justus (Cypress Academy), Marvin Kimble (Swiss Turners), Yul Moldauer (5280 Gymnastics), Robert Neff (Swiss Turners), Marty Strech (Azarian U.S.T.C), Colin VanWicklen (Cypress Academy), Kiwan Watts (River City Youth Fitness) and Tanner West (Cypress Academy).

Exploring the Women's Field at P&G Champs

Seven of the Senior Women competing at the 2013 P&G National Championships competed as Seniors at last year's events (Kyla Ross, Elizabeth Price, McKayla Maroney, Kennedy Baker, Brenna Dowell, Mykayla Skinner and Abigail Milliet). Lexie Priessman, Madison Desch and Simone Biles went 1, 2, and 3 respectively in the Junior All Around at the 2012 Championships. At the recent Secret U.S. Classic, Kyla Ross won over Texas Dreams gymnast Peyton Ernst, with Dowell finishing in third. McKayla Maroney dominated on the Vault, Ross won the Uneven Bars, with Ernst earning the high score on the Balance Beam and Priessman outclassing the field on the Floor Exercise.

There are so many big names in the Junior field and really I could mention them all, just like I could with the Seniors. However this year's Secret Classic saw Bailie Key win the All Around over Amelia Hundley and Veronica Hults. Hults was the Uneven Bars champion with Nia Dennis, Norah Flatley and Lauren Hernandez earning the Vault, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise honors respectively.

The Junior Women get the Championships underway on the 15th of August at 1.00pm (local time) with the Seniors competing at 7.30pm. They then return to the XL Center on the 17th of August, with the Juniors competing at 2.00pm and the Seniors competing at 7.30pm.

Lexie Priessman has withdrawn from the competition at the P&G Championships due to an Achilles Tendon strain. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! Full recap and the results of the Junior competition will be upcoming as I have had to spend most of the day at the hospital with my housemate who chose to fall off a ladder - long story! McKayla Maroney will only be competing Vault and Floor Exercise, whilst Elizabeth Price is only competing Vault and Uneven Bars. I am yet to see a leotard from the Senior Women that I don't like. Was a bit iffy on Kyla Ross' but it has grown on me, McKayla Maroney's leotard still to grow on me. Poor Ebee had a tough day at the office on the Uneven Bars, but lovely to see her compete despite being on the comeback from injury. Fabulous Beam routine from Simone Biles too. Wowsers McKayla Maroney just pulled out one hell of a Floor routine! MyKayla Skinner had a Beam routine she would probably rather forget, counting two falls. Solid Floor routine for Erin Macadaeg. A few balance checks in the routine for Madison Kocian but a nice set. At the halfway mark in the competition, Kocian leads over Biles with Peyton Ernst in third. Upon reflection McKayla's leo has grown on me. 9.500 Execution score for Kyla Ross' vault. Solid floor routine for Brenna Dowell. Ernst falls on her acro series on the Beam. A few problems in Mykyla Skinner's floor routine, but that was a solid effort. Kocian falls on her triple twist, rolls her ankle. No idea how she finished her routine after that. Gutsy. Maroney - massive step on the landing of the Amanar. Another huge step on the landing of the second Vault. With one rotation to go, Biles takes the lead over Ross and Abigail Milliet. Kocian is scratching Vault. Super Cheng from Skinner. Beautiful floor routines from Ernst and Guerra. Massive Amanar for Biles, second Vault is a Yurchenko half on, Layout half off. Rock solid Bars set for Ross. And at the end of the first day of competition for the Senior Women, Simone Biles leads over Kyla Ross and GAGE's Brenna Dowell. Maroney topped the Vault, Ross the Uneven Bars, and Biles on the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.

The Senior Men's competition at the XL Center tonight and on the 18th is set to be a fierce affair with so many big names competing. I cannot even begin to pick who might triumph so I guess all that is left to say is bring it on! My recap of today's Junior Competition is forthcoming. Unfortunately work has chewed up most of my attention today. With one rotation to go The University of Michigan's Samuel Mikulak leads over Ohio State University's Brandon Wynn and Jake Dalton. And at the conclusion of the final rotation we basically watched the Sam Mikulak show with Dalton finishing in second and Alexander Naddour in third.  Steven Legendre was the top scorer on the Floor Exercise over Eddie Penev and Stacey Ervin. Naddour was the top scorer on the Pommel Horse followed by Mikulak and Ohio State University's Michael Newburger. Brandon Wynn earned the top mark on the Still Rings followed by University of Oklahoma's Michael Squires and Naddour and Steven Lacombe (University of California-Berkeley) who tied for the third highest score. Dalton was the top scorer on the Parallel Bars followed by Mikulak and Sean Melton (USOTC). Whilst on the Horizontal Bar, Mikulak tied with John Orozco (USOTC) for the top score.

Added my little opinion: What a night... a bat loose in the XL Center and Sam Mikulak dominating in the first day of the All Around. Danell Leyva will be hoping for a better night on Sunday after a rough time on the Pommel Horse. Jacob Dalton was great and Alexander Naddour really impressed! Joshua Dixon has shown his potential whilst I was quite blown away with Brandon Wynn's routines this evening. John Orozco's comeback is underway although not the Pommel Horse routine he would have imagined having. Stacey Ervin's Floor routine was incredible and all in all I think we can say that Sunday's competition will be exciting!

The Junior portion of the P&G Championships sees gymnasts compete for the honors in one of two age divisions - the 15-16 and the 17-18 years. Currently leading the 17-18 division in the All Around after day one is Jacob Dastrup of the U.S. Olympic Training Center, followed by Dmitri Belanovski of Swiss Turners Gymnastics Academy. Andrew Rickly of Hocking Valley Gymnastics Center is in third, with SCATS Gymnastics' Alex Powarzynski sitting in fourth. Dastrup currently leads the standings on the Floor Exercise and Pommel Horse, whilst Jordan DeClerk of Aerial Gymnastics Club earned the top mark on the Still Rings. Taylor Seaton of WOGA Plano was the top scorer on the Vault with Belanovski and Rickly tying for the top spot on the Parallel Bars. Rickly also scored top marks on the Horizontal Bar. Some great routines by the field in this division. Looking forward to seeing what they produce on Sunday. Missing from the original starting line up was Florida Gymnastics Training Center's Antonio Castro.

Marvin Kimble of Swiss Turners Gymnastics Academy dominated on the first day of competition in the 15-16 division, not only topping the All Around standings but also earning the top marks on the Pommel Horse, Still Rings and Parallel Bars. Yul Moldauer of 5280 Gymnastics finished second in the All Around standings and also top scored on the Horizontal Bar. Quest Hayden of Hayden's International Gymnastics Academy is in third place in the All Around. Colin Van Wicklen of Cypress Academy of Gymnastics and Anthony McCallum II of Hayden's International Gymnastics Academy had a stellar day, top scoring on the Floor Exercise and Vault respectively. Fantastic effort from all the guys and I cannot wait to see what happens on Sunday.

Well done especially to Marvin Kimble, Jacob Dastrup, Yul Moldauer, Anthony McCallum II, Colin Van Wicklen, Yaroslav Pochinka (WOGA Plano) and Bobby Baker (Aerials Gymnastics Club) who have qualified to compete in the Senior Division Session on Sunday.

Simone Biles of Bannon's Gymnastix Inc. dominated on day one - earning the top marks in the All Around, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise in the Senior competition at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. Kyla Ross and Brenna Dowell rounded out the top three in the All Around. Madison Kocian of WOGA who was second on Uneven Bars and Balance Beam has withdrawn from the competition. Personally I am looking forward to a great evening of competition. In terms of the current live scoring below, I will record the event scores from tonight but will rank the gymnasts in terms of their combined two-day All Around total. Okay so once again there are some lovely leotards in this field as to a favorite well I simply cannot decide. Bit of leg separation from Ernst on Bars. Solid routine for Skinner on Beam - much better than day one. Lovely routine from Maggie Nichols on Floor. Fantastic routine on Bars for Ebee!! Awesome Beam routine for Biles. Lovely routine from Kyla a couple of steps on landings. Sensational routine for McKayla on Floor. After the first rotation, the All Around rankings from yesterday remain unchanged - it is still Biles, Ross and Dowell. A lot of power for Dowell on Floor, out of bounds on her opening pass - double layout full twist. Problems with a lot of her landings. Phenomenal routine for Biles on Floor, just out of bounds on double twisting double back. Sensational Amanar for McKayla. Solid routine for Peyton Ernst. And the top three remain unchanged at the half way mark. So Mykayla Skinner is still one handing her Cheng in warmups. Aww hello to Simone's parents. They seem sweet. Huge hop back on the Amanar for Biles. What a Bars routine for Kyla!! Great vault for Brenna. Nice Bars routine from Maggie Nichols. Ariana Guerra has withdrawn from the competition. Fall on Bars for Madison Desch. Great routines from Skinner and Nichols. Nice Vault from Ebee. Brenna couldn't connect the Tweddle but a lovely routine! Oh wow it all comes undone for Biles on the Uneven Bars. Solid routine for Ross. And Simone Biles is the 2013 P&G National Champion. Kyla Ross finishes in second 0.250 points behind Ross. Brenna Dowell finishes in third. Maroney wins the Vault and Floor Exercise honors, whilst Kyla takes out the honors on the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam.

Well done to all gymnasts. Extra congratulations go to Mihai Brestyan and Aly Raisman who were named 2012's Coach of the Year and Athlete of the Year respectively. Kyla Ross was named the Sportsperson of the Year.
