Aus Delegation for 2013 AYOF Announced

The Australian Youth Olympic Festival is being held from the 16th to the 20th of January, 2013 in Sydney. A total of seventeen sports will be contested with 30 nations expected to compete. Gymnastics disciplines to be contested are Men's Artistic Gymnastics, Women's Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Trampoline. 

According to the information on the official AYOF website, the following nations have been invited:
  • MAG: Australia, China, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei
  • WAG: Australia, Canada, China, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand
  • RG: Australia, Canada, China, Great Britain, Malaysia, New Zealand

Verniaiev and Dementyeva are Blume Memorial Champs

Okay so I have a bit of a results catch up to do and this is the first! 

The 36th Joaquim Blume Memorial was held in Barcelona, Spain on the 17th of November. Russian Anna Dementyeva and Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine where triumphant in their respective divisions. Dementyeva, who achieved the top scores on the Uneven Bar, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise, won the title convincingly over Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber and Spain's own Maria Paula Vargas. German stalwart Oksana Chusovitina finishing fourth in the All Around after scoring the highest mark on the Vault. 

Verniaiev achieved top marks on the Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse and Parallel Bars in order to win the All Around honors over Great Britain's Daniel Purvis and Spain's Fabian Gonzalez. Spaniard Javier Gomez scored the highest on the Still Rings, with Purvis taking the Vault honors whilst American Joshua Dixon took the honors on the Horizontal Bar.

Results - Elite Gym Massilia

The second of the results round ups. 


In the Open Massilia competition, Futures Gymnastics Center in Canada took out the team title over Sweden and the team representing the Canadian Gymnastics Federation which tied for second place. Silvia Colussi-Pelaez of Futures Gymnastics Center won the Open All Around over Louise Vanhille of France and Sydney Townsend of Canada who was a part of the Mixed St Etienne/Canadian Gymnastics Federation squad. In the Master Massilia competition, Russia were triumphant over the Canadian Gymnastics Federation and Futures Gymnastics Center which rounded out the top three. The All Around was won by Russian Evgeniya Shelgunova with SIYI Chen of China and Ida Gustafsson of Sweden rounding out the top three. The Top Massilia portion of the competition saw the Event Finals take place. Emma Larsson of Sweden took out the Vault honors over Maria Kharenkova of Russia and Sabrina Gill of Futures Gymnastics Center. China's SIYI Chen won the Uneven Bars title with Russian Victoria Kuzmina and China's ZHILIN Liu rounding out the top three. Futures Gymnastics Center's Gabriella Douglas won the Balance Beam title over Belgium's Berengere Fransolet and Kuzmina. Whilst on the Floor Exercise, Kharenkova triumphed over Canadian Open representative Heaven Latimer and LOU Nina of China.

Qualifications in Ostrava - NOW COMPLETE

Qualification at the 2012 Ostrava CIII World Cup has begun in the Czech Republic. On the Men's Floor Exercise, Greek star Eleftherios Kosmidis topped the rankings with Belarussian Andrey Likhovitskiy and Dutchman Glenn Smink tying for second. Croatian Robert Seligman easily topped the Pommel Horse standings with Hungary's Zoltan Kallai and Likhovitskiy rounding out the top three. Brazilian Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti and Greece's Eleftherios Petrounias were joint top scorers on the Still Rings with Japan's Kazayuki Takeda in third. Vietnam's NGUYEN Ha Thanh shared the top spot on Vault with Dutchman Bart Deurloo with Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev in third. Ha Thanh also topped the Parallel Bars rankings with Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine and PHAM Phuoc Hung of Vietnam rounding out the top three. Whilst on the Horizontal Bar, Japan's Kazuyuki Takeda and Deurloo tied for the top spot with Likhovitskiy in third. 

In the Women's Qualification, Chile's Barbara Achondo Andino has top scored on the Vault with Slovenian Teja Belak in second and Makarena Pinto Adasme of Chile and Jennifer Khwela of South Africa tying for third. Sweden's Ida Gustafsson topped the Uneven Bars over Great Britain's Ruby Harrold and Czech Republic's Kristyna Palesova. Dutch gymnast Sanne Wevers made a successful comeback in achieving the highest score on the Balance Beam. Ukraine's Krystyna Sankova and Poland's Monika Frandofert rounded out the top three on the event. Whilst on the Floor Exercise, Chile's Makarena Pinto Adasme and Barbara Achondo Andino were one-two respectively with Austria's Lisa Ecker in third.

Purvis, Bui added Glasgow World Cup; Sasaki, Iordache Out

Great Britain's Daniel Purvis and German Kim Bui have been named as replacement athletes for the 2012 Glasgow World All Around Cup which is being held on December 8th at the Emirates Arena. Purvis replaces Brazil's Sergio Sasaki Junior in the line up, whilst Bui is added to the Women's field to replace Romanian Larisa Andreea Iordache.

Results - Open Massigalia and Massigaliade

Another results catch up! This time it is the results from the Open Massigalia and the Massigaliade divisions which were held in conjunction with the 2012 Elite Gym Massilia competition which was held on the 17th and 18th in Marseille, France. 

In the Open Massigalia competition, the squad representing the Canadian Federation came up on top with the French Espoir team and the Mixed team consisting of Swedish and French Espoir gymnasts. Canada's Rose-Kalam Woo won the All Around title over her compatriot Shallon Olsen and French Espoir representative Oceane Pause. The Massigaliade saw Gymnasts born in 2001, 2002 and 2003 compete in their respective age divisions to determine the All Around champions for each division. In the 2001 division, Janna Mouffok (Pole Espoir Meaux) won the title over Lea Marques (Hyeres Gymnastique) and Assia Khnifass (Pole Espoir Dijon). Alizee Aicardi (A.S.C.M. Toulon) was the 2002 Champion with Morgane Osyssek (Haguenau) and Camille Caruna (France Pole Espoir Marseille) rounding out the top three. Julia Forestier of Lille Metr JSM won the All Around in the 2003 division with Metz Gym's Sofia Abdullayeva and Pirjo Wolfisbrg (E.G.D.A.A. Publier) finishing out the medals.

Finals Conclude in Ostrava

There was a mixed bag of nation in which picked up the medals for the final CIII World Cup event of the season. This was held at the Cez Arena in Ostrava, in the Czech Republic. 2012 Olympian PHAN Thi Ha Thanh of Vietnam won the Women's Vault title over Chile's Barbara Achondo Andino and Makarena Pinto Adasme who were second and third respectively. Czech Republic's own Kristyna Palesova took out two titles, winning both the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles. Dutchwoman Lisa Top and Sweden's Ida Gustafsson rounded out the medals on the Uneven Bars whilst on the Balance Beam, Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands and Gustafsson won the silver and bronze medals respectively. Barbara Achondo Andino also picked up a Gold medal on the Floor Exercise with Austrian Lisa Ecker and Krystyna Sankova of Ukraine picking up the remaining medals. 

Japan's Ryuzo Sejima took out the Men's Floor Exercise over Brazilian Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti and Greek star Eleftherios Kosmidis. Andrey Likhovitskiy of Belarus took out the Pommel Horse honors with Belgian Donna Donny Truyens and Japan's Takuto Kakitani rounding out the medals. Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece won the Still Rings title over Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti and Ukraine's Oleksandr Vorobiov. Vietnam NGUYEN Ha Thanh won the Vault title with Poland's Marek Lyszczarz and Austrian Michael Fussenegger winning the silver and bronze medals respectively. Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev took out the Parallel Bars title with NGUYEN Ha Thanh in second and Poland's Adam Kierzkowski in third. In the Horizontal Bar final, Poland's Adam Rzepa replaced compatriot Roman Kulesza in the final. This was won by Dutchman Bart Deurloo with Japan's Kazuyuki Takeda earning the silver and Croatian Marijo Moznik and Belarussian Aliaksandr Tsarevich sharing the bronze medal.

Brennan Officially Announces Retirement

Two-time Olympian Ashleigh Brennan has officially announced her retirement from Gymnastics. The announcement was posted on Gymnastics Australia's website on Friday - see here. Ashleigh has been a valued member of the Australian Gymnastics team and her presence will be sorely missed. Best wishes to her in her future endeavors. 

Olsen wins Top Gym

Canadian up-and-comer Shallon Olsen took out the 2012 Top Gym All Around title, after achieving top marks on both the Vault and Floor Exercise. This was the 16th edition of this competition, which was held in Charleroi, Belgium on the 24th and 25th of November. Olsen's compatriot Rose-Kalam Woo achieved the top mark on the Balance Beam to win the silver in the All Around, with Welsh competitor Georgina Hockenhull winning the bronze. Switzerland's Stefi Siegenthaler achieved the top score on the Uneven Bars.

Some big name gymnasts are set to participate in the Team Competition at the 2012 DTB Pokal. The Team Qualification is set to get underway on the 30th of November (Women beginning at 10.30am and Men beginning at 3.00pm) with the Men's Final starting at 3.30pm on the 1st of December and  the Women's Final taking place on the 2nd of December, commencing at 4.00pm. I am excited to see how Kristina Goryunova goes as too the remaining Russian team members.

Tournoi International Daniel D'Amato

The 22nd edition of the Tournoi International Daniel D'Amato was held in Blanc-Mesnil, France from the 23rd to the 24th of November. The competition saw Men's and Women's Artistic Gymnastics from eight countries participate. The team from Switzerland won the Men's Team title over Ukraine and Hungary whilst in the Women's competition, Hungary won the title over Ukraine and Hungary. Ukraine's Dar'ya Kloptsova topped Hungary's Hajnalka Lonai and Canada's Mackenzie Itcush for the Women's All Around title. Switzerland's Taha Serhani won the Men's All Around over Monaco's Julien Gobaux and compatriot Christian Baumann. The Women's Event Finals saw four different nations pick up Gold medals. Hungary's Luca Diveky won the Vault title over Emily Lennon of Canada and CRIFMa's Maureen Pagno. Itcush won the Uneven Bars over Tereza Ochynska (CZE) and Olesya Sazonova (UKR). Lea Callon of CRIFMa earned the Balance Beam title over Hungary's Hajnalka Lonai and Dalia Al Salty. Kloptsova was the winner on the Floor Exercise with Lennon and Diveky rounding out the medals. In the Men's Event Finals, Serhani won the Floor title over Gobaux and Mykyta Yermak of Ukraine. Guillaume Augugliaro of Antibes was top on both the Pommel Horse and Still Rings titles. Ukraine's Yevgen Yudenkov won the silver medal on both the Pommel Horse and Still Rings whilst Yermak picked up the bronze on the Pommel Horse with Gobaux on the Still Rings. Switzerland's Marco Walter took out the Vault title over compatriot Serhani and Nandor Szabo of Hungary. David Vecsernyes of Hungary took the Parallel Bar honors with Szabo and Walter rounding out the major placings. While on the Horizontal Bar, Baumann was triumphant with Vecsernyes and Serhani taking out the minor medals.

Thanks to Sandra who requested on Formspring for the results from the Event Finals at the Top Gym competition in Chaleroi, Belgium. Canadian Shallon Olsen won the Vault title over Sweden's Emma Larsson and Romanian Anamaria Ocolisan. Rose-Kalam Woo of Canada took out the Uneven Bars honors with Switzerland's Stefi Siegenthaler coming second and Romanian Diana Teodoru tying with Rhyannon Jones of Wales for the bronze. Welsh gymnast Georgina Hockenhull took out the Balance Beam final with Sweden's Lovisa Estberg and Ellen Haavisto finishing second and third respectively. Larsson won the Floor Exercise title over Hockenhull and Mara Titarsolej of Pays-Bas.

2012 Trampoline & Tumbling Pan American Championships

The 2012 Pan American Trampoline and Tumbling Championships will be held from the 28th of November to the 3rd of December at the Auditorium "Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez" in Queretaro, Mexico. 2012 Stuttgart ENBW World Cup Series II

The 30th edition of the DTB Pokal ENBW World Cup will take place from the 30th of November to the 2nd of December. This All Around World Cup will take place in The Porsche Arena Stuttgart, and also features the team competition as was introduced last year. The Schedule for the competition is below, as too is the exciting participant list! Out of the top 10 gymnasts from the Men's All Around Final from the Olympics, eight will be action at this competition.Including the three two medalists, Kohei Uchimura (JPN), Marcel Nguyen (GER) and Danell Leyva (USA). Seven Women will be in action, six of whom competed at the London Olympics, with the other gymnast being Elizabeth Price of the United States of America who was one of the three alternates for the Olympic Games.

Team Qualification at the DTB Pokal World Cup

N.B: Team Scores calculated by adding the top two scores on each Event.

In the Women's Team Qualification, German Team 1 consisting of Lisa-Katharina Hill, Isabelle Marquard, Janine Berger and Pia Tolle topped the Russian team by 0.250. Japan finished in third. Pia Tolle, who was originally supposed to start in the second German team, moved up after Oksana Chusovitina withdrew due to a cold. Annabel Holzer moved up to start in German Team 2, whilst Canadian Jessica Dowling withdrew from the competition due to injury. The Switzerland squad also changed with Sarina Gerber and Romina Bertschinger replacing Caterina Barloggio and Nadia Baeriswyl and Russian Yulia Inshina did not compete. The top four teams from qualification move onto the Final to be held on the 2nd of December. Highest scorers on each event were: German Janine Berger (Vault), Russians Aliya Mustafina (Uneven Bars) and Kristina Goryunova (Balance Beam) with Japan's Wakana Inoue on Floor Exercise. 

In the Men's competition, Aleksandr Balandin came into the Russian squad as the fourth gymnast but did not compete, whilst Pablo Braegger and Pascal Bucher replaced Kevin Rossi and Oliver Hegi in the Switzerland team. The Canadian team consisted of Anderson Loran, Joshua Stewart, Robert Watson and Scott Morgan while the Dutch team saw Melvin Omek and Boudewijn de Vries replace Jorian Ilbrink and Anthony van Assche. The Qualification was won by the Japanese Team with Brazil and Great Britain rounding out the top three. The highest scorers on each Event were: Russian Nikita Ignatyev and Britain's Sam Oldham on the Floor Exercise; Japan's Kohei Kameyama on Pommel Horse, Brazilian Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti on the Still Rings and Vault (tied with Oldham), Japan's Kenya Kobayashi on the Parallel Bars, and German's Christopher Jursch on the Horizontal Bar.

    Price Wins Stuttgart World Cup AA Honors

    American upstart Elizabeth Price has taken out her first major title - the 2012 Stuttgart World Cup All Around competition. Price top scored on the Vault and Uneven Bars to seal the win over Germany's Elisabeth Seitz and Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber. Seitz achieved the highest mark on the Balance Beam whilst Italian Vanessa Ferrari shone on the Floor.     Nguyen Wins Men's AA Title at Stuttgart World Cup

    Russian WAG Triumphs at DTB Pokal Team Comp

    The Russian Women's team consisting of Aliya Mustafina, Kristina Goryunova, Yulia Inshina and Anna Rodionova won the Team Title at the DTB Pokal Stuttgart World Cup. The competition did not go without incidence when Anna Rodionova come off after her Pak Salto on the Uneven Bars and did not compete for the remainder of the competition, Inshina came into the competition to compete on one event only. Germany's Pia Tolle had a mishap on the Balance Beam but was okay as can be expected. Japan was second with Germany's Team 1 finishing second. Lisa Katharina Hill who competed for the Germany 1 team in qualification did not compete in the final, with Anja Rheinbay who competed for the second team replacing her in the lineup. Highest scorers on each event, were: German Janine Berger and Japan's Wakana Inoue on Vault; Mustafina on the Uneven Bars; Goryunova on Balance Beam and Inoue on Floor Exercise. This event also served as a fitting farewell to Marie-Sophie Hindermann who was a part of the Germany 2 team, who is retiring from the International Gymnastics scene. All the best to her!
