The University of Georgia Gymdogs won against the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas Junior Katherine Grable took out the All Around honors and top scored on the Floor Exercise, however it was Georgia who led on the other three events. Georgia's Lindsey Cheek and Cat Hires tied for the Vault title, with Christa Tanella and Chelsea Davis tying for the Uneven Bars honors. Their team mate Shayla Worley won on the Balance Beam.

 

The University of Kentucky celebrated their first road win in a Southeastern Conference meet since 1999, with a win against Auburn University. Kentucky's Audrey Harrison won the All Around title over Auburn's Caitlin Atkinson. Whilst Individual honors went to Kentucky's Kenzie Hedges on Vault, Auburn's Petrina Yokay on the Uneven Bars, with Auburn's Atkinson and Megan Walker tying for the honors on the Balance Beam. Kentucky's Kayla Hartley and Auburn's Toi Garcia tied for the Floor Exercise title.

 

Central Michigan University won over New Hampshire, with Chippewas' Sophomore Becca Druien winning the All Around title over New Hampshire's Austyn Fobes. CMU's Kirsten Petzold and Meaghan McWhorter tied for the Vault honors, whilst their team mate Kylie Fagan earned the honors on the Uneven Bars. Fobes picked up the titles on the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.

 

Illinois State University won their season opener against Lindenwood in the historic Horton Field House. Illinois State's Jenna Bossle won the All Around title and top scored on the Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise, whilst her fellow team member Samantha King won the Balance Beam title. The entire Lindenwood Lions team must be commended for strong performances on all four apparatuses.

In a closely fought battle, Iowa won their season opener against Ball State University. Ball State's Brittney Emmons won the All Around title, whilst Iowa's Maya Wickus picked up the Vault title. Wickus also tied with team mates Sydney Hoerr, and Emma Stevenson for the Uneven Bars title. Denaisha Christian of Ball State tied with Jessica Morreale of Iowa for the Balance Beam title with Kyra Trowbridge of Iowa taking out the Floor Exercise honors.

Iowa State narrowly won over Kent State with Iowa State's Henrietta Green taking out the All Around honors (she was the only gymnast to compete all four events). Kent State's Whitnee Johnson took out the Vault honors with Rachel Guida earning the top mark on the Uneven Bars. Iowa State's Michelle Shealy took out the Balance Beam title with team mate Elizabeth Stranahan winning the Floor Exercise title.

In yet another close battle, 8th ranked Louisiana State University caused a surprising upset against 3rd ranked University of Florida. This came about after Florida had to count a fall in their Balance Beam scorers when both Bridget Sloan and Marissa King had falls from the Balance Beam. Florida's Kytra Hunter took out the All Around, Vault, and Uneven Bars (tied with Louisiana State's Sarie Morrison) titles. Hunter's team mate Mackenzie Caquatto earned the honors on the Balance Beam, whilst LSU's Lloiminica Hall took out the Floor Exercise titles.

Alabama dominated in their win against the University of Missouri. Kim Jacob earned the All Around honors as well as the Floor Exercise and Balance Beam titles (the latter shared with team mate Sarah DeMeo). DeMeo also picked up the Uneven Bars title whilst Diandra Milliner picked up the Vault title. Standout performers for Missouri were Rachel Updike, Tori Howard and Sandra Ostad.

In a closely fought battle, the North Carolina State University and University of Maryland finished the night in a draw. North Carolina State's Diahanna Ham won the All Around title as well as the Floor Exercise honors, tied with team mate Brittni Watkins and Maryland's Ally Krikorian. Maryland's Katy Dodds took the Vault title, whilst North Carolina State's Stephanie Ouellette and Maryland's Stephanie Giameo took out the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles respectively.

Oregon State University bounced back after their loss last week by winning the team title by 0.375 over Ohio State University. The Beavers win was bittersweet after Freshman Sarah Marquez was unable to complete her Floor routine due to a knee injury. Here's hoping everything is okay. Ohio State's Melanie Shaffer took out the All Around and Balance Beam titles while Oregon State's Kelsi Blalock and Hailey Gaspar tied for the Vault title. Oregon State's Stephanie McGregor and Erika Aufiero tied for the Uneven Bars title whilst their team mate Makayla Stambaugh won the Floor Exercise honors.

West Virginia won against Pittsburgh in the season opener for both teams. Pittsburgh Freshman Lindsay Offutt was a standout winning the All Around and Floor Exercise titles. The latter event saw Alyssa Adrian also of Pittsburgh and West Virginia's Alaska Richardson tie for the title. West Virginia's Hope Sloanhoffer and Alaska Richardson tied for the Vault honors while University of Pittsburgh's Bri Hogan won the Uneven Bars title. West Virginia's Kaylyn Millick won the Balance Beam title.

Sacramento State had a convincing win over Seattle Pacific despite injuries to Cayla Beutler and Kailey Hansen. Sacramento Sophomore Kalliah McCartney won the All Around, Vault, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise titles whilst her fellow Hornet Nicole Meiller won the Uneven Bars title. Standout performances for Seattle Pacific came from Maria Hundley, Shannon Escarra and Stephanie Wagner.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire were succesful in a tri-meet against Wisconsin-La Crosse and Hamline University. Hamline's Courtney Benson took out the All Around title whilst her team mate Kambria Blakely top scored on the Vault (tied with UW-La Crosse's Natalie Hall), and Balance Beam. UW-Eau Claire's Rachel Behmer took out the Uneven Bars title whilst team mate Elizabeth Stubbs took out the Floor Exercise honors.

Winona State opened their season with a loss to the Wisconsin-Oshkosh team. Krystal Walker of Oshkosh won the All Around title and Vault honors (the latter shared with team mate Stephanie Gorman). Winona State's Anna Gleason won on the Uneven Bars, with Stephanie Wojton taking out the Balance Beam. Oshkosh's Abby Zubella took out the Floor Exercise title.

Stanford University came out on top at the quad meet at the McKale Center with Arizona, Illinois and San Jose State rounding out the competition in that order respectively. Arizona's Aubree Cristello took out the All Around honors over Illinois' Alina Weinstein and Stanford's Ashley Morgan. Apparatus honors went to Stanford's Nicole Dayton on Vault, Kristina Vaculik of Stanford on the Uneven Bars; Arizona's Aubree Cristello on the Balance Beam; and Arizona's Cristello and Kristin Klarenbach tied for the Floor Exercise title.

The University of Oklahoma triumphed against Arizona State. Oklahoma also took out all the Individual honors, with Taylor Spears picking up the Floor Exercise title, Madison Mooring taking out the Vault, and Erica Brewer taking out the All Around, Balance Beam and Uneven Bars (tied with Brie Olson) titles. Standout performances for the Sun Devils came from Natasha Sundby, Risa Perez and Brianna Gades.

It was a disappointing day for the Bowling Green Gymnastics squad, whom after leading the competition for three rotations had to settle with a loss to the Texas Women's University team. TWU's Spencer Jones won the All Around title, whilst Bowling Green's Jamilah Ali and Amanda Lievendag picked up the Vault and Uneven Bars titles respectively. Bowling Green's Alyssa Nocella shared the Balance Beam title with Texas Women's Bethany Larimer, whilst Ali tied with Texas Women's Kristin Edwards for the Floor Exercise honors.

Brigham Young triumphed over Utah State, with BYU's Raquel Willman taking out the All Around title. Brigham Young's Eliane Kulczyk and Madeline Nilsson tied with Utah State's Paige Jones for the Vault title, whilst Brigham Young's Haylee Rollins took out the Uneven Bars. Megan Bain also of Brigham Young took two titles, winning the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.

The Denver Pioneers dominated in their win over the United States Air Force Academy. The lone All Around competitor for the Pioneers, Maggie Laughlin won the title, whilst her team mates also picked up individual honors - Kaitlin Moorhead on Vault; Moriah Martin on Uneven Bars and Nina McGee on Floor Exercise. Denver's Jorie Hall and Melodie Pulgarin Linero tied for the Balance Beam honors. Jessica Wallander, and Jen Larsen were standout performers for the Air Force Academy.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater took out the Gustie Triangular over Wisconsin-Stout and Gustavus Adolphus. On their way to victory, Whitewater's Annie Mix took out the Uneven Bars title, Megan Love took out the Balance Beam title and Allyse Dieringer took out the honors on Floor Exercise. Stout's Mesha Peterson earned the Vault title whilst Brittany DeZiel won the All Around. Samantha Opsahl was a standout performer for Gustavus Adolphus.

Samantha Musto won the All Around and Floor Exercise titles to held Penn State in their win against the University of Illinois-Chicago. Penn State's Sharaya Musser picked up the Vault title and Madison Merriam picked up a win on the Uneven Bars. Musser also shared the Balance Beam title with UIC's Catherine Dion. Great to see Sidney Sanabria-Robles make a successful return to collegiate gymnastics as well.

Ithaca College opened the season with a loss to The College at Brockport at home. Brockport's Elizabeth Levy picked up the All Around title, whilst her team mate Olivia Sylvestro tied with Ithaca's Valerie Cohen for the top score on Vault. Ithaca College's Rani Jacobsen won the Uneven Bars title, whilst Brockport's Kelcie Morris and Sylvestro picked up the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise titles respectively.

University of Michigan downed the University of Nebraska at home. Michigan's Joanna Sampson won the All Around title and shared in the Floor Exercise honors with Nebraska's Emily Wong. Jamie Schleppenbach took the Vault honors whilst Sachi Sugiyama and Katie Zurales both of the University of Michigan earned the top marks on the Uneven Bars. Jennifer Lauer of Nebraska earned the high mark on the Balance Beam.

Michigan State University fell to Western Michigan at their home meet. Kayla Weber of Western Michigan held off Michigan State's Alina Cartwright and Lisa Burt to take out the All Around total. Cartwright earned the title on the Vault, whilst Caroline O'Brien of Western Michigan tied to the Uneven Bars, with Kelsey Turnquist of WMU taking out the Balance Beam. Lisa Burt and Kayla Weber also tied for the Floor Exercise title.

The Minnesota Gophers won over Washington and in doing so the Gophers earned all the individual honors, besides the All Around in which went to Aliza Vaccher. Kayla Slechta took out the Vault (tied with team mate Kylie Schermann) and Floor Exercise (tied with team mate Janell Campbell), whilst Campbell and Lindsay Mable (Minnesota) tied for the Uneven Bars. Schermann also shared the Beam title with Hannah Nordquist (Minnesota).

The Rutgers Scarlett Knights topped Alaska-Anchorage and Yale in a tri-meet at a home meet at the Livingston Recreation Center. Austria import Simone Penker of Alaska-Anchorage won the All Around title with her fellow Seawolves M'rcy Matsunami and Emily Petersen took out the Vault and Balance Beam titles respectively. Rutgers' Danielle D'Elia earned two titles, the Uneven Bars (tied with team mate Alexis Gunzelman) and the Floor Exercise (shared with team mate Jenna Zito). Tara Feld, Stephanie Goldstein and Joyce Li were standout performers for Yale.

Senior Vanessa Zamarripa was the standout performer for UCLA in their win against Utah. Zamarripa took out the All Around, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam (shared with team mate Danusia Francis) and Floor Exercise (tied with team mate Olivia Courtney). Courtney also picked up the Vault honors, tied with Utah's Tory Wilson.

Towson defeated William and Mary at Kaplan Arena. William and Mary's Jessica Pritchard was the only gymnast to compete on all four events, whilst her team mates Brittany Stover picked up the Vault title and Brandy Stover earned the Balance Beam honors. Towson's Samantha Lutz was triumphant on the Uneven Bars with her team mate Katie Sassa winning on the Floor Exercise.

Lone Wilson College gymnast Jennifer Miller travelled to take on SUNY-Cortland in a competition where Cortland's Sarah Nadrowski earned all the Individual titles, including on Balance Beam where she tied with team mate Amanda Recor.

 

George Washington University took out the team honors at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational over North Carolina, Cornell, Pennsylvania and Temple. GWU Senior Stephanie Stoicovy successfully defended the All Around title she won last year and also picked up the Floor Exercise title. North Carolina's Elizabeth Durkac won the Vault title whilst Pennsylvania's Dana Bonincontri and North Carolina's Maura Masatsugu took out the Bars and Beam titles respectively.

Despite trailing going into the rotation, Northern Illinois came back to win their season opener against Illinois State. Samantha King of Illinois State was a standout performer, dominating the All Around and also taking out the Balance Beam title (tied with Northern Illinois' Natasha Jufko). The remaining titles went to Elise Gray (Vault); Kim Genereux (Uneven Bars) and Kim Caron (Floor Exercise).

Southern Connecticut State University triumphed over Springfield College and Rhode Island College in a tri-meet at Springfield's Blake Arena. Springfield's Lauren Pocius took out the All Around and Uneven Bars titles with team mate Brittany Baglow winning the Beam title, whilst Southern Connecticut Freshman Nicole Pruchnik tied with team mate Rebecca Brady for the Vault title and also earned herself the Floor Exercise honors.

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse triumphed against Winona State University at the McCown Gymnasium on the 15th of January. UW-La Crosse's Sheree Romesburg was the only gymnast to compete on all four events and also earned the top marks on the Floor Exercise. Her team mate Christa Booman won the Uneven Bars title. Winona State's Jena Jondahl won the Vault title whilst Cassandra Mello won the Balance Beam honors.

Ursinus College fell to West Chester University in their home meet which took place on the 16th of January. Ursinus' Johanna Warren was the only gymnast to compete on all four events in a competition which saw her team mates, Monica Durham and Kristin Aichele pick up the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles respectively. West Chester's Kaley LaFleur took the top mark on the Vault with fellow WCU gymnast Melissa Voskian winning the Floor Exercise title.

Australian Olympic gymnast Lauren Mitchell has confirmed that she has no solid plans to compete this year as part of an interview in relation to her role as an Athlete Ambassador at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival. The West Australian-born dual Olympian is living in the village with the young athletes, helping them train and adjust to the unique pressures of an international multi-sport competition.

"It's such a great opportunity," Mitchell said of the AYOF. "Being able to live in the village, learning when to rest and dealing with distractions as well as experiencing international competition like this at a young age is so beneficial".

The 21-year-old trains with a number of the girls on the team and says being able to help them prepare and watch them compete in the Festival is very rewarding.

"I think it's important just to be a friend," Mitchell said of her role. "They already have their parents and coaches pushing them to succeed, so I'm really just support."

Mitchell has no solid plans to compete this year, choosing to try and correct a long standing shoulder injury instead. Her previous achievements have not been overlooked, especially by teams from overseas.

The Australian Gold team, consisting of Tara Wilkie, Anastasia Katharios, Marlee-Shae Holden and Michaela Whitehouse have won the Rhythmic Gymnastics Team Competition at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney. The team from China came second with the Malaysian team picking up the bronze medal.

The Chinese team consisting of LUO Huan, CHEN Siyi, MEI Jie and LIU Zhilin won the Women's Team Competition at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney. Great Britain finished second with Australia Gold in third. Australia Gold consisted of Alexandra Eade, Eliza Freeman, Rianna Mizzen and Eden Tarvit. Highest scorers on each event, were: Great Britain's Tyesha Mattis on Vault (scored 14.066); Amy Tinkler on Floor Exercise (13.800) and Catherine Lyons on Balance Beam (14.200); with China's CHEN Siyi on Uneven Bars (14.433). The Great Britain contingent consisting of Nile Wilson, Dominick Cunningham, James Hall and Courtney Tulloch won the Team title at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival. The team were winners by a massive seven point margin over China with the Australian team rounding out the medals. China won the silver medal despite having to finish with only three gymnasts after one was injured during the competition. I am unsure of which gymnasts competed for China nor which gymnast was injured. If anyone has any information, please leave a comment.

Georgia defeated Auburn University at the Stegeman Coliseum. Auburn's Caitlin Atkinson took out the All Around title whilst Georgia's Lindsey Cheek and Chelsea Davis took out the Vault and Uneven Bars titles respectively. Brittany Rogers got hammered on Beam after she had a huge wobble and was missing a flight series connection. Auburn's Megan Walker won on the Balance Beam whilst her team mate Bri Guy tied with Georgia's Sarah Persinger for the Floor Exercise title.

 

Alabama won at home against Louisiana State in a competition which saw Kim Jacob take out the All Around title. Alabama team mates Kayla Williams and Diandra Milliner shared in the Vault title, whilst LSU's Sarie Morrison top scored on the Uneven Bars. LSU's Rheagan Courville topped the Balance Beam with team mate Lloiminicia Hall tying with Bama's Sarah DeMeo and Kim Jacob for the Floor Exercise title.

Ball State University had a surprising win against Central Michigan in which CMU's Becca Druien took out the All Around as the only gymnast to compete on all four events. Ball State's Denasiha Christian and Brittney Emmons took out the Vault and Floor title respectively, whilst Central Michigan's Kylie Fagan and Taylor Noonan picked up the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles respectively.

Boise State defeated Utah State in a record breaking season opening win at home. Boise State's Brittany Potvin-Green shined in the competition, taking out the All Around, Vault and Floor Exercise titles, whilst her team mate Erin Wippermann earned her first career title on the Uneven Bars. Utah State's JoAnna Cuba picked up the Balance Beam title.

It was a fantastic night for the Florida Gators who notched up a win against Missouri! Ashanee Dickerson won the All Around, Vault and Floor Exercise, coming close to perfection, scoring a ten from one judge. However it was Junior Mackenzie Caquatto who stole the show, winning the Uneven Bars title with a massive 10.000!!! Bridget Sloan took out the Balance Beam title. Standouts for Missouri were Tori Howard and Rachel Updike.

The 15th ranked University of Kentucky had a stellar night, winning the team title against the No. 14 Arkansas. Audrey Harrison had a great night winning the All Around, Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise titles. Whilst on Vault, Kentucky's Holly Cunningham tied with Arkansas' Heather Elswick for the honors. And on the Balance Beam, it was a three way tie between Kentucky's Shannon Mitchell and Marissa Beucler and Arkansas' Sydnie Dillard.

Although Southeast Missouri won the match up, Lindenwood recorded a new season high. Southeast Missouri's Megan Fosnow and Taryn Vanderpool shared the All Around title. SEMO's Fosnow and Emma Garrett tied for the Vault title, whilst Vanderpool won the Uneven Bars title, and Taylor Westrick earned the top score on the Balance Beam. Lindenwood's Rachel Zabawa won the Floor Exercise honors.

The University of New Hampshire managed to hold off North Carolina State to take out a win at  home. North Carolina State's Stephanie Ouellette took out the All Around with Diahanna Ham and Brittni Watkins taking out the Vault and Floor Exercise respectively. North Carolina State's Lane Jarred and Hannah Fallanca tied for the Balance Beam title, with Rachel Fincham of NC State tying with New Hampshire's Austyn Fobes for the Uneven Bars title.

Oklahoma was triumphant against Denver. Oklahoma's Taylor Spears won the All Around, Vault (tied with Denver's Moriah Martin) and Beam whilst her team mates Keeley Kmieciak and Haley Scaman won the Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise titles respectively.

Arizona State was the winner in a tri-meet against California State and San Jose State. Arizona State's Natasha Sundby took out the Vault and Floor Exercise titles, with the latter being tied with California State's Cassie Benning. Kahoku Palafox of ASU took out the Uneven Bars whilst on the Balance Beam it was a three way tie between Kalliah McCartney (California State), and ASU's Riza Perez and Morgan Steigerwalt. McCartney took out the All Around honors.

Despite the U.S. Air Force Academy winning the Team honors against Seattle Pacific, it was Shannon Escarra who stole the show. Escarra took out the All Around, Vault, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise titles, whilst Air Force Academy's Linnaea Hance won the Uneven Bars title.

The University of Washington won the Quad meet at Home against UC-Berkeley, UC-Davis and Illinois-Chicago. Washington's Lauren Rogers took out the All Around title whilst Jaclyn McCartin won the Balance Beam title and Paige Bixler took out the Floor honors. The Vault title was shared by Rogers and UC-Berkeley's Alicia Asturias and  Dallas Crawford. Cal's Madisyn O'Brien tied with Michelle Ho of UC-Davis for the Uneven Bars title.

 

The College at Brockport amassed a win against Springfield College. Lauren Pocius of Springfield won the All Around title, with four different Brockport gymnasts picking up the individual event titles - Amanda Carney (Vault); Stephanie Schuler (Uneven Bars); Amanda Rota (Balance Beam) and Olivia Silvestro (Floor Exercise).

 

Winona State topped Hamline and Gustavus Adolphus at the Hamline Triangular. Winona State's Jade Donaldson, Danielle Thenell and Stephanie Wojton took out the Vault, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles respectively. Whilst Hamline University Courtney Benson took out the All Around and Floor Exercise titles.

 

The University of Michigan dominated against the University of Illinois. Katie Zurales picked up the All Around, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam (the latter tied with team mate Shelby Gies and Illinois' Sunny Kato). Whilst Joanna Sampson took out the Vault and Floor Exercise titles.

Nebraska dominated against Michigan State at Home. Nebraska's Emily Wong won the All Around title, and also took out Vault, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles. Her team mate Hollie Blanske took out the Floor Exercise title.

After trailling at the halfway mark of the competition, Northern Illinois came from behind to defeat Bowling Green State. Natalie Sutter of Northern Illinois picked up the All Around title whilst Bowling Green's Megan Harrington and Amanda Lievendag picked up the Vault and Uneven Bars respectively. BGSU's Jamilah Ali tied with Natasha Jufko of NIU for the Balance Beam title, whilst the Floor Exercise title went to Northern Illinois' Marisa Liptak.

Ohio State won against Iowa in their first home meet of the season. Melanie Shaffer won the All Around honors and also took out the title on the Uneven Bars. Sarah Miller of Ohio State had a stellar meet taking out the Vault (tied with Iowa's Emma Willis), Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.

The University of Minnesota topped Kent State, Penn State and Towson University at the Quad Meet held at the Recreation Hall on the Penn State campus. Kent State University's Amiah Mims won the All Around title whilst Minnesota's Kayla Slechta took out the Vault title. Kent State University's Kayla Slechta won the Uneven Bars title, whilst Penn State University's Kassidy Stauder and Sharaya Musser tied for the honors on the Balance Beam. Minnesota's Lindsay Mable and Kylie Schermann tied for the Floor Exercise title.

The University of Maryland was triumphant against Pittsburgh, Cornell and Temple. Maryland's Kathy Tang won the All Around and Uneven Bars title. Fellow Terrapins Ally Krikorian and Katy Dodds tied for the Vault title whilst Stephanie Giameo won the Balance Beam title. Krikorian also took out the Floor Exercise title, shared with Pittsburgh's Alyssa Adrian.

Bridgeport won the Quad meet against Rutgers, Pennsylvania and Ursinus College. University of Pennsylvania's Dana Bonincontri won the All Around title whilst Bridgeport's Monica Mesalles took out the Vault title with her team mate Sasha Tsikhanovich won the Floor Exercise title. Rutgers' Jenna Williams took out the Uneven Bars and Claudia Salinas earned the Balance Beam honors.

Arizona won the quad meet against Brigham Young, Texas Women's and Wisconsin-Whitewater. Arizona's Aubree Cristello took out the All Around, Vault and Beam, whilst her team mate Kristin Klarenbach earned the honors on the Floor Exercise. Brigham Young's Raquel Willman and Haylee Rollins earned the Uneven Bars title.

The Utah Utes dominated in their Home Opener against Oregon State, West Virginia and Southern Utah. Tory Wilson won the Vault title, whilst Georgia Dabritz won the All Around, Uneven Bars (tied with Oregon State's Makayla Stambaugh), Balance Beam and Floor Exercise (tied with Stambaugh, fellow Utah gymnasts Corrie Lothrop and Nansy Damianova and OSU's Melanie Jones).

Bridgeport won against Brown University, the University of Rhode Island Club Team and Rhode Island College. Also competing at this competition was Wilson College's lone gymnast Jennifer Miller. Bridgeport's Monica Mesalles picked up two titles (Vault and Floor Exercise) with her team mates Lissette La Fex and Sasha Tsikhanovich taking out the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles respectively. Tsikhanovich also picked up the All Around honors.

 

West Chester University narrowly defeated SUNY-Cortland. Cortland's Sarah Nadrowski won the All Around and Uneven Bars titles, whilst team mates Amanda Recor and Courtney Mangini were tops on the Vault and Floor Exercise respectively. West Chester's Kaley LaFleur was the top scorer on the Balance Beam.

 

North Carolina was triumphant at home against William and Mary and George Washington. North Carolina Senior Elizabeth Durkac had a stellar meet taking out the All Around, Vault and Uneven Bars. William and Mary's Brandy Stover took out the Balance Beam title, whilst George Washington's Stephanie Stoicovy won the title on the Floor Exercise.

Southern Connecticut State University was triumphant over Yale and Ithaca College. Yale's Joyce Li won the All Around title whilst her fellow Bulldog Morgan Traina won on the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam. SCSU's Nicole Pruchnik won the Vault and Floor Exercise honors.

Western Michigan defeated Eastern Michigan, with WMU's Freshman Kayla Weber breaking the school's All Around record on the way to taking out the title, whilst also taking out the Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise titles. Her team mate Lauren Bledsloe earned the Vault honors.

 

The Georgia Gymdogs dominated in their win against Stanford University at the Stegeman Coliseum on the 21st of January. Stanford had to compete without Ivana Hong, who had been a star performer in recent weeks as she had an issue with one of her routines during the warm ups, with Stanford Head Coach Kristen Smyth deciding to rest her for the meet. Cardinals' gymnast Ashley Morgan was the lone gymnast to compete on all four events. Georgia's Lindsey Cheek tied with Stanford's Nicole Dayton for the Vault title, Georgia's Brandie Jay and Chelsea Davis tied for the Uneven Bars honors, whilst Stanford's Amanda Spinner triumphed on the Balance Beam. Shayla Worley and Kaylan Earls both of Georgia shared in the Floor Exercise high score.

 

The 2013 Dreamlight Perth Invitational Gymnastics Challenge takes place from the 24th to the 27th of January. This competition sees Junior International gymnasts from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa converge on the State Gymnastics Center which is based at the Loftus Recreation Center in Leederville, Western Australia. There will be a team representing Australia as well as a Western Australian Institute of Sport team, the teams are listed below thanks to the team entry but the composition may have been changed after yesterday's Podium Training. The iiNet Team Competition takes place Friday, 25th January starting at 6.00pm (WST) with the Global Insurance Broking All Around and Apparatus Competition starting at 4.00pm (WST) on Sunday, February 27th.

 

 

 

 

 

The New Zealand team consisting of Hanna Malloch, Courtney McGregor, Millie Williamson and Charlotte Sullivan took out the iiNet Team Title. Australia came second with WAIS pipping South Africa for the Bronze. Based on last night scores, New Zealand's Courtney McGregor had the highest All Around total, whilst the top scorers on each event, were: Gillian Chan (AUS) on Vault; Aya Meggs (WAIS) on Uneven Bars; Sullivan on the Balance Beam and Franceska Fusha (AUS) on the Floor Exercise. Competition continues on Sunday with the All Around and Individual Apparatus Competition being held.

 

New Zealand continued their winning ways on the final day of the Dreamlight Perth International Gymnastics Challenge in Leederville, Western Australia. New Zealand's Millie Williamson took out the All Around title over Australia's Paige James and team mate Courtney McGregor. McKenzie Slee and Charlotte Sullivan tied for the Vault honors whilst Charlotte Sullivan (NZL) won on the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam whilst McGregor picked up the Floor Exercise honors. McKenzie Slee and Tara Purvis of New Zealand did not compete on the Balance Beam whilst Sullivan did not compete on the Floor Exercise. Well done to all gymnasts!

 

According to AsiaOne online news portal, four Olympic sport disciplines are set to be dropped from the 27th South East Asian Games competition which is to take place in December this year in Myanmar. The four disciplines notably missing are: Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis and Gymnastics. The four sports were among the 31 confirmed at the first SEA Games Council meeting held in the Myanmarese capital Naypyidaw last July, with the inclusion of seven sports - fencing, fin swimming, hockey, petanque, soft tennis, tarung derajat (an Indonesian martial art) and vovinam (a Vietnamese martial art) - to be discussed in a meeting next week.

The various National Olympic Committees received an updated list earlier this week in preparation for the meeting, with the four Olympic sports conspicuously absent.

Singapore National Olympic Council secretary general Chris Chan has sent the local organisers a letter on this matter, with several other countries lending their support.

Chan said: "Nothing has been finalised yet. As with many previous Games, there's always room for discussions and I brought the matter to the attention of the local organisers, which elicited responses from other countries as well.

Here is hoping that this was just an oversight and that Gymnastics is once again included in the programme. Also from the above article:

Veteran gymnast Lim Heem Wei added: "It's quite sad because these are all our core sports, especially table tennis, and we would lose out in the medal count if that happens.

"But we haven't gotten any official notification about this yet and we will just keep training.

Hopefully, we will be able to go for the Games."

University of Michigan alumni (2006-2009) Tatjana Theuner-Rego is currently listed on the nominative roster for the 2013 La Classique Gymnix. I hope she does compete because I have always enjoyed her gymnastics. Tatjana began her career competing for Universal Gymnastics in Miami, Florida where she qualified three times to the J.O. National Championships (2003, 2004, 2005). She has been coaching at Calgary Gymnastics Center since early last year.
 

The Category B "Miss Valentine" World Cup takes place from the 8th to the 10th of February in Tartu, Estonia. The competition sees the All Around take place over the two days of the 8th and 9th with the top eight gymnasts with each apparatus moving onto the apparatus finals on the 10th. Gymnasts to watch are Azerbaijan's Lala Yusifova, Belarussians Melitina Staniouta and Katsiaryna Halkina, Estonia's own Viktoria Bogdanova, Kazakhstan's Viktoriya Gorbunova, Russians Svetlana Lanshakova and Elizaveta Nazarenkova, and Uzbekistan's Djamila Rakhmatova and Ukrainian Ganna Rizatdinova.
